Author’s notes:  This is my first songfic.  I hope it’s not terrible.  The song is “Possession”  by Sarah McLachlan.

//Listen as the wind blows
from across the great divide.//

The pilots were all staying in one of Quatre’s many homes.  Duo stood on a beach, watching as the waves crashed against the
sand.  A cool breeze brushed his skin, blowing his bangs to one side.

//Voices trapped in yearning,
memories trapped in time.//

His thoughts drifted over memories of Heero, the Perfect Soldier.  He was so handsome, the cutest guy Duo had seen in his life.
His eyes, that perfect Prussian blue color.  Sure, the first time he had seen Heero, he had shot him, but that hadn’t stopped him
from noticing how damn cute the guy was.  Duo had instantly been captivated by those blue eyes of his the first time he had
seen them.

//The night is my companion
and solitude my guide.
Would I spend forever here
and not be satisfied.//

He was alone once again, just like he had been for most of his life.  No one cared for him, no one.  It had never bothered him
much before, but then he hadn’t been in love with someone that didn’t love him back.

He remembered the events of that evening.  How he had told Heero of his feelings, only to have them rejected by the Perfect
Soldier’s actions.  Heero hadn’t told him that he loved him, hadn’t said one damn word to him other than “I’m sorry.”

What the hell did he have to be sorry about?  Was he sorry that he didn’t love him or sorry that Duo loved him?

Duo sighed, wondering if he would ever get over the aching void in his heart.  He loved Heero so much, wanted nothing more
than to be near him.

//And I would be the one to hold you down,
kiss you so hard,
I’ll take your breath away
and after I’d wipe away the tears,
Just close your eyes dear.//

How Duo wished Heero would hold him in those strong arms of his.  He wanted nothing more than to be by Heero’s side, to feel
his lips against his, the warmth of his body.  He would do anything to make Heero happy, if only Heero would tell him that he
loved him.

//Through this world I’ve stumbled
so many times betrayed.
Trying to find an honest word,
to find the truth enslaved//

His life had been nothing but pain.  So many had died, his parents, Solo, Sister Helen and the Reverend.  How much more pain
would he have to go through in his life?  Wasn’t it enough that he had lost so much?  Did he have to live without love too?

//Oh you speak to me in riddles
and you speak to me in rhyme.//

Heero’s words still rang in his ears.  “I’m sorry.”

What the hell had he meant by that?  Why was he sorry?  Duo clenched his fists, as tears stung the corners of his eyes.  No, he
wouldn’t cry, wouldn’t give in to the weakness.

//My body aches to breathe your breath,
your words keep me alive,
And I would be the one to hold you down,
kiss you so hard,
I’ll take your breath away
and after I’d wipe away the tears,
Just close your eyes dear.//

A hand clamped on his shoulder, and he spun around to see Heero standing before him.  Oh, how he wanted to throw his arms
around Heero, to just be held by him.  But he held himself back, knowing that Heero didn’t love him, didn’t want to get that
close to him.

“I’m sorry.”  Heero said, repeating the words he had said earlier.

“For what?”  Duo asked, struggling to keep his tears back.  He would not cry in front of Heero, not show him how much his
heart ached to be near him.

//Into this night I wander,
it’s morning that I dread.
Another day of knowing
of the path I fear to tread.//

Duo didn’t want to listen to him, didn’t want to hear anything that he had to say.  What if he gave his reason for why he didn’t
love Duo?  Would Duo be able to stand hearing about his own faults?  He turned away, not wanting to look at his face, not
wanting to see into those beautiful blue eyes.

“I’m sorry I can’t love you, the way you deserve.”  Heero stated, his voice its usual monotone.

Duo turned quickly, almost falling over as he heard those words.  For a moment, he thought that it was only his own
imagination, his own foolish hopes.  But in Heero’s eyes he could see the emotion, something he thought he’d never see.

“W-what?”  Duo stammered, not truly believing what he had heard, or what he saw in Heero’s eyes.

Heero closed his eyes a moment, not looking at Duo.  “I'm sorry I can’t be the man you deserve.”

“But you’re the only one I want.”  Duo replied, laying his hand against Heero’s cheek.

//Oh into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride.
Nothing stands between us here
and I won’t be denied,//

Heero looked up at him.  “But I don’t know . . .”

Duo didn’t let him finish.  “What you know or don’t know, doesn’t matter to me.  I love you, that’s all that counts.  Whatever
you don’t know, you can learn.”  Duo said, flashing a smile.

To his surprise, Heero smiled back, if only slightly.  But that smirk was enough for now.  Heero looked into his eyes once again,
making Duo feel as if he could just melt.  “I love you.”  He said slowly, taking his time with each word.

Duo wrapped his arms around Heero’s waist, pulling him closer to him.  “I’ve waited so long to hear those words.”  Duo
murmured as Heero slowly returned the embrace.

He drew Heero even closer, pressing his lips against his in a long passionate kiss.  He brushed his tongue against Heero’s teeth.
In response, Heero parted them, allowing Duo to further explore his mouth with his tongue.  For years, Duo had dreamed of this
moment, of Heero holding him in his arms wanting Duo just as much as he wanted him.  Now he had all he wanted, everything
he had dreamed about.

A sudden dampness against his cheek startled him, and he pulled away.  His eyes caught sight of a tear falling from Heero's eye,
and he silently cursed himself for being so forward, for rushing into things.

“I’m sorry, Heero.  I shouldn’t have done that.”  Duo said, pulling away from Heero.

“No.”  Heero replied, wrapping his arms around Duo even tighter, keeping him from puling away completely.  “I wanted that.”
He looked deep into Duo’s eyes.  “I want you.”

Duo’s breath caught in his throat.  Had he heard right?  Did Heero actually say that he wanted him?  He smiled, knowing that he
had heard right.  Gently, he reached up and brushed away Heero’s tears with his fingers.

Heero sat on the sand, pulling Duo down with him.  As Heero slowly undid the buttons on Duo’s shirt, all Duo could think about
was how happy he was.  Finally, he wasn’t alone, someone cared about him.  As long as Heero was with him, he’d be happy,
knowing that he was loved.

//And I would be the one to hold you down,
kiss you so hard,
I’ll take your breath away
and after I’d wipe away the tears,
Just close your eyes//
